The biggest cost driver is never the choice of framework — it remains how much is still undecided. Each unanswered question in the requirements is converted into a contingency somewhere in the quote. A vendor that does not know the exceptions and edge cases must assume the worst. Putting two weeks into a discovery phase frequently cuts the total by far more than negotiating the rate.

Integrations are another reliable source of cost. A feature that touches only your own data is easy to estimate; the same functionality wired into a legacy ERP is not. The cost hides in the third party: undocumented APIs, long certification processes, data that does not match your model. Ask the estimator to list every external system, since that is where the numbers slip.

The requirements nobody writes down silently change the budget. An application used by twenty people is a very different build from the same feature set serving thousands of external customers. Security reviews, high availability, scalability, data retention rules and localisation each add real engineering time. Put them in the brief or expect the estimate to move later.

Who actually does the work matters. A day rate tells you almost nothing on its own: one senior developer at twice the price can be less expensive in the end than a pair of junior developers who require heavy code review. Check too what else appears on the invoice: mobile app development services delivery management, QA, release engineering and analysis are legitimate costs, but they should be itemised.

The quoted figure is rarely the full cost of ownership. Expect .net cloud development costs, subscriptions and licences, logging and alerting and an ongoing support budget each year. A reasonable rule of thumb holds that a live system needs a recurring percentage of the initial investment per year simply to stay current. Leaving it out of the budget is the most common budgeting mistake.
